STUFFED SAUSAGE BREAD

I have a wonderful friend that made a fantastic
stuffed sausage bread. She would bring us
a hot loaf of her bread for a treat when we worked together
about ten years ago. We fancied ourselves part of the
Ya'-Ya's...me being Vivianne and her being Teensy!
Over the course of time,
I created my own version of her bread and believe me....
the guys in my family....LOVE THIS!

ESTELLE'S STUFFED SAUSAGE BREAD
1 (1 pound) loaf of frozen bread dough
1 lb. of sage sausage
1 cup of finely chopped onion
1/2 cup finely chopped green pepper
1 t. garlic powder
3 T. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 t. black pepper
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 cup of shredded white cheddar cheese
1 egg, beaten
Cornmeal for dusting

Thaw the bread dough and allow to rise.
Brown the sausage, onion, green pepper until
sausage is browned and crumbly.
Drain.
Blend in the seasonings and mushroom soup.

Roll the bread dough on a prepared surface
which has been lightly sprinkled with cornmeal.
Roll the dough in rectangle.
Spoon the sausage mixture down the middle of the bread,
then roll up into a log shape.
Brush with beaten egg.
Bake at 350 degrees F. for about 30 minutes
until golden brown.
Slice and serve while warm.
I serve this with a beautiful ice cold wedge salad!

  1. Oh boy! The 'boys' in our family would sure love this. Would you believe I have never bought any of that frozen bread dough? What is WRONG with me (don't answer that). I used to have a bread machine but it gave up the ghost so I haven't made homemade bread in a long time. This sounds like a perfect winter treat. xo Diana

    1. I know exactly what you mean Vee. If you use a sweet yellow onion and saute with the sausage and/or ground beef, it helps alot! Hope you try this and love it!

  5. so funny that you mentioned the Ya-Ya's....my mom was a part of that gang! and I went to high school with the author of the book! and I was one of the original yaya fan club members! and because of that, I hosted 28 women from all over the world for 4 days at my lake house that had become friends because of an online book club!!
Oh....and did I mention that not one of us had ever met face to face until they walked up to our lakehouse??!! and every single one of us got along tremendously and have remained friends for 15 yrs!!!
    crazy world we live in!!!

  6. I was going to say that although it looks good my husband and I could not eat it. He does not like sausage and we are both allergic to milk and cheese. But then I read the comments and saw you could change it to basically any ingredients you want. So now I'm going to give it a try with things we can eat.
