MEMORIAL DAY APPLE COBBLER

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for all those
who honored our country and fought and died defending our freedom...
It's important to be mindful and give thanks....

Many celebrate this day by gathering the family
and host a barbecue in the backyards.....
We enjoy the days of tending to the garden and
splashing in the pool, well into the evening..
we think of summers spent at Grandmother's
and how carefree our days were...
Last year's barbecue was delightful.....

SMALL PLEASURES FOR THE NEW YEAR

Cravings for comfort, coziness and contentment are shared
by many of us these days.

We have high hopes for a better year than last,
so why not do our best to create those feelings
within our homes.
Simplicity and serenity go hand-in-hand to create an
atmosphere of cozy comfort!
These are small ways I have found to bring joy,
along with happiness to these early January days!

After years of getting up very early in the morning and rushing
off to work, it is indeed a pleasure to no longer rush into the morning
and take the time to savor a beautiful breakfast....
today was hot buttery buttermilk waffles topped with fresh berries!
A delight to the senses......

I just love this little Ball jar which I transformed
into a bit of winter look with just a few items I
had left over from Christmas......

A bit of artificial snow, a sprig of evergreen, a tiny tree and
some gingham ribbon....yes, I simply love it!

I adore these little glass mugs..and find them perfect
for a hot wintery beverage in the afternoons....
I bought these in Maine at The Christmas Tree Shop
and remembered we sipped a winter tea when it
was a bitterly cold snow day......

I chose this delightful Celestial Herbal Tea which
sounded perfect for January....Cranberry Vanilla...divine!!!

Now isn't this just beautiful....
tea in the afternoon can nurture yourself and is
considered a form of self-care.

You know by now, that I am a huge lover of
pretty paper napkins....I love bringing snowmen
in some form or fashion into winter days...
these are from Mackenzie-Childs and I just thought
they were vibrant and sweet!

After the Christmas décor has been carefully packed and put away,
it's time for a good deep cleaning and I like using Mrs. Meyer's
products.....this is my favorite winter scent.....

There is probably nothing more heartwarming on
a cold January day, than to plan on making
a homemade soup for lunch....today,
it was my version of Broccoli Cheese Soup for two...
topped with a few green onions and extra cheddar!

I also love calendars that feature recipes and gardening tips...
this is a new Gooseberry Patch calender I received for Christmas
and each month will feature an easy recipe which has been
proven to be tried and true.....
January shared this delicious recipe for BBQ Sloppy Joe's....
perfect for a Sunday night dinner!

AFTER CHRISTMAS SALES......

I purchased this beautiful set of hand soaps
which I plan on using for the bathrooms
during the holiday season of 2021!

Working on puzzles is a terrific winter activity
which will help keep your mind sharp and your hands busy!
The darling is a puzzle master and I am a bit challenged
at doing a complete puzzle on my own!
This sweet little winter scene just spoke to me...
and so, THIS is my next at home activity!

NOTEWORTHY....The events that have unfolded this week
in Washington have been extremely upsetting and just plain horrifying.
It is nothing I have seen in my lifetime....
Prayers are needed for our nation.
Stay safe, stay well and strive to be happy and kind.

OVEN-BARBECUE CHICKEN

Hello Loves!
What are your plans for the weekend?
We are sprucing up the yard for autumn...
trying to complete this MAJOR chore
before some much needed rain moves in!

The darling wanted to grill chicken for Saturday,
but with 50% chance of rain,
I am going to opt for OVEN-BARBECUED CHICKEN!
This recipe is divine...
an old, old Southern Living favorite of ours!
You know, Southerners can barbecue chicken outdoors
almost all year long, but if the weather keeps you indoors,
you should consider this variation of BBQ in the oven!

Photo-Pinterest

OVEN-BARBECUE CHICKEN
1/2 cup flour
1 t. paprika
1 t. salt
1 t. pepper
1 whole chicken, cut into pieces
1/4 cup melted butter
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 medium onion, chopped
2 T. water
1 T. vinegar
1 T. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 t. salt
1/2 chili powder
1/2 t. pepper

Combine first four ingredients, stir well.
Dredge chicken in flour mixture.
Pour butter into a 11" x 9" baking dish.
Arrange chicken in the pan, skin side down.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes.
Combine remaining ingredients, stir well.
Remove chicken from oven and turn each piece over.
Spoon remaining sauce over chicken
and
continue to bake 45 minutes longer.

BEAUTIFUL TEXAS WINERY AND BBQ

We have a date....
in November..
It's our wedding anniversary
and
we have just discovered
a hidden gem!

Miss Catherine attended a bridal luncheon
at Mitas Hill last weekend and
just happened to leave her cell phone behind.
So the darling and I offered to drive out
and pick it up for her!
This is very close to our home
and
would you believe we had no idea this gorgeous winery
was even here!
This turned out to be a delightful
discovery for us, so we plan to return
for an afternoon in October
and have a date for our anniversary in November!
Just look at how lovely the ground are!!!

This is their steakhouse...
Justine's...
Please reserve the table in front of the fireplace for me....

Hey...who needs Napa Valley?
We have our own gorgeous winery
within a minutes drive in the great state of Texas!

We drove out in the countryside to locate the winery
and passed some gorgeous country estates!
This particular home caught my eye...
the most magnificent trees ever!

This home sits at the end of a road
and is just the most beautiful picturesque setting!

Oh, how I would love to sit on their porch
with a glass of sweet tea!!

We met them for dinner to deliver
the missing cell phone
which is a barbecue place halfway between the two of us!

This is Hard 8!
They catered Nick and Cat's wedding reception!
What a delicious way to end the day!

You just have to luv Texas!

What new places have you discovered near your home recently?

DALLAS WEEKEND FUN..HOCKEY AND BARBECUE!

Take Two...
sorry I posted these pictures in error yesterday....
let's begin again....

Don't you just love Saturday mornings going to the nursery?
This time of year, EVERYONE
is buying plants and getting their lawns and gardens ready for summer.

Beautiful....
I could spend hours looking around...
perhaps one of each?

We are potting new urns for our
entryway this week
and
chose to add some yellow cannas!!!

Stop!
Marigolds...I LOVE marigolds....

summer blooms....
I just cannot wait for more patio days!

Now....THIS is what I was SOOOOO excited about!
I have been in love with the Pioneer Woman 's cake stand
ever since it was debuted last year!
It sold out quickly and has been out of stock until last week.
Then.....
lo and behold,
there was ONE in stock at Walmart
and
it was all mine......!!!!!

I prepared a German Chocolate cake
with
Salted Carmel Frosting!

Just luscious.....

What can I say....
this made me SO happy!
I find it an ELEGANT addition to Estelle's kitchen!
However, I did hear the darling mention quitely,
"I thought we needed ANOTHER cake stand..."
He is TOO good to me!

Sunday, we had BIG PLANS...
a lunch date and a playoff game to see
THE DALLAS STARS!
My boys are AVID Stars fan
and
I was invited to go along today!
We were meeting for lunch before the game!

The Pecan Lodge is VERY POPULAR
here in Dallas!
Their former location was small and located
at The Dallas Farmers Market.
They became SO well known,
they relocated to a larger building
in Deep Ellum.
There will ALWAYS be a long line
so show up when they open.
Once it's gone...it's gone!

This was OUR first time to eat here so we were pretty excited!
Greg and Jenn have talked about how good their brisket is for years!

The line moves pretty quickly and indeed...
it was a GREAT Texas BBQ!
It has also been freatured on
Diner's Drive-In's and Dives...
DELICIOUS!!!

This is some good eatin' y'all!!
a gorgeous day to dine on the patio!

Then it was onto American Airlines Center
and
Victory Plaza
for the big game....
Hey!
"They're havin' a pahty....."

Double dating with this cute couple!

The Stars put on one EXCITING GAME!
Even though we lost 4-3 to the
Saint Louis Blues....we had just a GRAND TIME!
