AROUND THE HOUSE....A DRIVE-BY VISIT TO OUR FORMER CITY...DELICIOUS FOOD

I adore Cardinals...especially at Christmas and
during the winter months....
This beautiful and vibrant Cardinal was visiting me
right outside the kitchen window one morning and I
considered him my gift for the day....
the saying goes that the sighting of a Cardinal
represents a loved one from heaven....

May you come to find comfort in and remember:
Cardinals appear when angels are near.
So go now, sit outside and drink your tea.
Keep a look out for the little red bird —
It is there, your loved one will be.

FOOD FARE......

A Sunday morning breakfast of
Edna Mae's Sour Cream Pancakes with berries

I have wanted to try this Autumnal Harvest Soup
that was a feature from Trader Joe's back in the fall..
and today was the day....IT WAS MARVELOUS!

The perfect pairing of a fancy grilled cheese
and a serving of Tomato Soup...
lunch is served!

I have done more baking this past month....
just to keep busy hands.....
like homemade Cinnamon Rolls.....

The darling treated us to a gourmet dinner Saturday night....
we have tried to support our local favorite restaurants in
our area....they have been marvelous at making curbside pick up
so efficient and safe....we applaud and appreciate each of them!

This is DFW Airport.....

The strangest view I thought we would never see....
a mere ghost town......

There were no cars, no people, no planes....rows and rows
of planes just parked in rows.....quiet.....so very, very odd......

We took most of the day on the weekend
and traveled south.....
it was delightful to take a car tour of our former
city where we raised the children....
we drove by our former homes and neighborhoods
which brought back a flood of happy memories....
their schools, their friends houses, where they played,
many years of living.....oh that was just wonderful!!!

Then we drove further and suprised one of the boys,
with a phone call....saying, come outside and say hello.....
it was just what my heart needed to see the grandchilren...
from six feet away.....

Seems like all the boys are rather enjoying not shaving.....
the hardest part was staying apart...no hugs, no kisses...no touching....
but oh those faces......we needed this!

Now, for a few fun things to keep busy.....

Here is the Chcocolate Chip Cookie recipe from
KING ARTHUR FLOUR....

maybe this is a good day to bake!!!

I am going to create a centerpiece for our formal dining table
with a French Country theme....stay tuned....
I'm using my grandmothers crystal cake stand.....
rather excited for this one......

The garden bunny I used during Easter has
found a permanent home....
he's most noble I think.....

Let's look for the positives....stay safe and live your best life!

FALL FAVORITES FROM TRADER JOE'S AND KIRKLAND'S

We are having our first taste of Autumn weather finally...
and I will say it is glorious!!!
Football is in full swing and I can say,
there is no better place on earth to be,
than an October Friday night at a Homecoming
High School football game in the great state of Texas!!!

Go OWLS!!!

Our grandson and his best girl,  who was crowned HOMECOMING QUEEN!

Congratulations to Bailee!

I hope you are loving your fall days as much as we are!
I'll be off for a while traveling, so I wanted to share
some fall favorites as we marvel in the October days ahead!

Kirkland's is one of my favorite places to shop for seasonal
home decor and as always, they did not disappoint!
I purchased this lovely gray velvet HOME pillow,
which has become a favorite of Miss Mae!

I also picked up this adorable pumpkin trio pillow
and the textured fabric is simply beautiful!

I am so in love with these throw pillows.....

Probably my favorite #1 new purchase,
is this fall art which to me, represents
everything I love about the season...
it is representative of all our fun times past, and current!
Hay bales, football, tartan blankets, pumpkins, picnics and tailgating!!!!

Autumn is probably my most favorite time to visit
Trader Joe's!
Here is what we selected on this weekend shopping excursion....

Doesn't this Autumnal Harvest Soup sound marvelous?
A tomato basil base, blended with Pumpkin and Butternut Squash...
how perfect this is going to be paired with a
rustic grilled cheese sandwich!

How cute are these Fall Leaf tortilla chips....
a lovely tailgate planned with this spinach dip and Pub Cheese!

We had this for lunch on a busy Saturday afternoon
and both of us loved it...will definitely buy this again!

I am serving with Beef Bolognese Ravioli
with the Autumnal Harvest Pasta sauce,
again, tomato blended with pumpkin and butternut squash....

Most everyone adores the Trader Joe's Peanut Butter Cups
and these Virginia Peanuts are fantastic mixed with candy corn!!

Y'all, this is really good coffee....
in the afternoon I blend this with almond milk
for a cold brew...delish!

And of course, you simply cannot leave
Trader Joe's without a gorgeous fresh bouquet of
fall flowers!
Oh, how I love the month of October!!!!
I cannot wait to pack for our trip
and all my new fall cardigans, scarves and jammies!!!

THE ULTIMATE CARROT CAKE FOR THE SUPERBOWL MENU

Hello Loves!
How was your weekend?
We had somewhat warm, humid, damp days on Saturday and Sunday.
We are even warming up into the 70's and I'll take it!
The darling is back to his golf game and that makes me a happy camper!
Would you believe I am still packing away Christmas decor?

Oh honey....if you are a Trader Joe's shopper, then
don't pass up the Chocolate Croissants....divine for Sunday brunch!

The darling sure does love his puzzles...another beauty
completed in two days!

Since neither one of us were too excited about this year's
Superbowl, we kept our celebration low key.
However, I have been wanting to make Miss Sue's Carrot Cake
for some time and decided this would be the perfect time to try it!

Every Southern girl needs to know how to bake a delicious Carrot Cake
and thanks to Sue.....who is one of the best bakers in the South,
I can be sure to feature this one on Mother's sideboard for family gatherings.
I should explain, that Sue was one of Miss Judy's coworkers and often
treated the office to her Carrot Cake.....highly anticipated and enjoyed by many!

I also made Eleanor's Mac N' Cheese....a family favorite!

For the main feature, I chose to prepare
Nashville Slow Cooker Hot Chicken!
This would be perfect for little slider buns, served
with homemade Ranch Dressing and cold pickles.

Good lord, what a boring football game this was!!!!!
But the food was delicious!

I remember enjoying the cake at halftime, but I've already
forgotten the half-time show......

There were several family text messages going back and forth
throughout the game.....even Luke was so bored,
he opted to finish homework during the third quarter!
It should have been THE SAINTS....that was a real
disappointment....big time!

I know Mae Mo....ho-hum.......

TRADER JOE'S SPRING SHOPPING

I love going to Trader Joe's for the four seasons!
And.....I also love the various foods other people love
from this unique grocery!
It was a gorgeous spring day, so this was the perfect time
to take a little shopping excursion for new spring goodies!
I warn you....you are going to leave this post HUNGRY!!!!

Our pear tree is exceptionally beautiful right now!
Each year, I take a photo to see her in all her spring grandeur!

If you shop at Trader Joe's, you know
the first thing to greet you, are all the lovely florals......

For sweet treats, I picked up
Sea Salt Brownie Petities
Lemon Bars
Chocolate Croissants

The baked goods I purchased were
Sliced French Brioche
Multigrain bread
Mini Blueberry Scones

I was thrilled to find Tangerine Juice, as I need this
for our Easter ham...and fresh Strawberry Preserves...
a little obsession of mine!

These will make a lovely lunch for the
darling and me.....BBQ Chicken Pizza
and a French style flatbread

A friend of mine recommended these three products....
Four Cheese Mac N' Cheese
Battered Halibut
and
Quiche Lorraine

I also found these Parmesan Pastry Sausage bites....
taste testing for a holiday appetizer!

Of course, I could not resist this gorgeous rose bowl!
Aren't they stunning?
So that's it gang....our Spring Trader Joe's haul....
hope y'all have a great weekend!
