Sipping the Autumn Wine

We welcome family and friends into our homes during the beautiful Autumn months. November, especially, is a time for entertaining our loved ones and being thankful for all that we have been blessed with.

Cold winds are blowing, the fireplaces are lit, soft blankets are thrown over the sofa and the coat racks are laden with jackets and wool hats.

Don't you just love the month of November? Every Thanksgiving, I serve this Autumn punch. It will warm you to your toes and it's a recipe that you will keep and serve year after year.

Autumn Punch
2 whole cloves
½ whole vanilla bean, split in half
Cheesecloth and string
64 ounces of apple-cranberry juice
4 medium plums, pitted and sliced
1 medium red apple
Whole cloves
1 bottle of white wine

Put cloves and vanilla in cheesecloth and tie in a bundle with the string. Pour apple-cranberry juice into a large container or pitcher. Add the plums and the spice bag. Cover and chill for 24 hours. Remove the spice bag, then stir in the wine and plum slices. Insert whole cloves all over the apple. Place the punch in a crock pot, along with a medium sized clove-studded apple. Keep warm throughout the day!

  1. Betsy, this sounds perfect for Thanksgiving... in fact, I could make a few days early and make sure it's good before I serve it to guests! You have the very best recipes, thank you!
