WHAT WARMS THE TUMMY AFTER SCHOOL? HOW ABOUT A WHITE TEXAS SHEET CAKE....WITH PECANS!

And so it begins...
Texas Back To School Days...
Time is just flying by at warp speed...

Grandson Noah begins Middle School...
or in our days we referred to 7th grade as Junior High School!
Miss Abbie begins her sophomore year of high school!
I simply cannot believe how much taller he grew over the summer
and is now towering over his big sister!
These two have been very, very close since they were babies!
And...they are both as sweet on the inside as they appear on the outside!
We wish them happiness and success during this school year!

We have already attended Volleyball tournament scrimmages
for the new Junior Varsity Team at Joshua High School.

I thought this was a darling picture of their team..
pretty Texas girls...with their Coach,
who is the one in the pink shirt in the middle!
I simply love, love, love Texas!!!

School is going great over in Atlanta!
This was about darling...
the principal of Luke's school
presented all new students with
their very own Husky Mascot!!!
Luke named his Snuggles!
(I simply adore the fact that he's not outgrown his babies yet!)

That will be a sad day indeed when that happens...
I'll probably cry a river......

Looks like the very first Cub Scout meeting was a fun time!

Now, on to Flag Football...
this year the program is being organized
by a former Pittsburg Steeler football player!

The games are only thirty minutes long which is plenty of time....it's still HOT!!!!

What a perfect way to cool down after two flag football games....ice cold lemonade at Pure!

Now, speaking of back to school, it reminded me of my own school days at McWillie Elementary school in Jackson. Mother always had a homemade snack waiting for Miss Judy and me...without fail. I thought about baking cookies, but as I was going through my recipes....the old tried and true Texas Sheet cake jumped out at me....if you want to be the most popular mom in your neighborhood, then put this on your "must bake" list for the week. It is DIVINE! I used to bake this for coworkers and potlucks all the time and always, always came home with an empty cake pan! It's home cookin' honey....your family loves you for that ya' know! It's a gift from our kitchens! The heart of our homes.....

WHITE TEXAS SHEET CAKE
1 cup butter
1 cup water
2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
2 large eggs, beaten
12 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon almond extract
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda

Frosting
12 cup butter
14 cup milk
4 12 cups confectioner’s sugar
12 teaspoon almond extract
1 cup chopped pecans

In a large saucepan, bring butter and water to a boil.

Remove from the heat; stir in flour, sugar, eggs, sour cream, almond extract, salt and baking soda until smooth.
Pour into a greased 15x10 inch baking pan.
Bake at 375 degrees for 20-22 minutes or until cake is golden brown and tests done.
Cool for 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, for frosting, combine butter and milk in a saucepan; Bring to a boil; remove from heat; add sugar and extract and mix well. Spread frosting over warm cake and sprinkle chopped pecans on top! Lovely served warm!

  4. Sweet post... So timely....

And we have volleyball practice going on here too. Pre school opening. Our Senior does volleyball in the morning and works at an ice cream place, evenings. She is busy, even before school starts, after Labor Day.
