WINTER'S SUGAR COOKIES

Winter….
I want to be transported to the mountains with bracing notes of pine needles,
winter citrus and white woods
~ Estelle’s

Still winter
We even experienced a touch of that "wintry mix" .....
you know rain, with a few snow flakes mixed in for good measure.....

I'm preparing to make our home winter cozy.
The cold wind doth blow today and
perhaps it's best to stay in wrapped in the warmth of flannel PJ's!

I began by layering our new breakfast tray.
I selected these two mugs for the darling and me....
Peace and Joy....
transitioning into the season so cold,
you want to sip on hot cocoa with lots and lots of cream.

Adding my own touch of scrapbooking to an old candle

Transforming the galvanized steel flower container into art reflecting winter's beauty.

Added a touch of warmth with my red plaid muffler.

I tried new sugar cookie recipes this year.
One that was very, very good which added cream cheese to the ingredients!
I posted this on Estelle's during December.
The other new recipe was one I found on a blog and it featured sour cream.
I made that recipe for Christmas Eve. I will say, they were not my favorites.
I did not make my long time favorite sugar cookie,
which I have made every year since we have been married.
I regretted that!
So....I am back to once again, the best sugar cookie in our home...
now featuring the winter snowflake!

Winter's Sugar Cookies

Sift together
2 3/4 cup flour
1 t. baking powder
1/2 t. salt

Soften 3/4 cup butter in a mixing bowl.

Add to the softened butter....
1 cup of sugar
2 eggs
1 t. vanilla or
1 t. almond extract

Beat until light and fluffy. Cover and chill for at least one hour. Roll a small amount of dough out at a time and cut on floured cutting board. Put on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 375 degrees F. about 8 minutes. Do not overbake.

Decorate with confectiners icing.

  1. It's cold and snowy here today. Your setting looks warm and cozy. Those cookies look great, too.

Hot cocoa sounds perfect about now.

  2. your photos are always so beautiful...

that last one, I could happily just pop right into it. sooooo pretty. and cozy. and safe-at-home looking.

I do love sugar cookies, and they even can translate quite well, to G/F. which is not the case, with so many items.

enjoy your (dare I say faux?) cozy. ,-) up here, we will be needing it for sure. but we are not close to the coast so it will be only a bit, of what others experience.
