A SPRING TABLE

“I meant to do my work today~
But a brown bird sang in the apple tree,
And a butterfly flitted across the field,
And all the leaves were calling me”
~Richard Le Gallienne

Does your home talk to you in springtime?
Are you watching the daffodils appear and the forsythia bloom?
Home was never sweeter than this very day.

Easter arrives a little late this year and I find that a good thing. It will take us a little longer to get there and we need not feel rushed to prepare our homes for the spring season.

Just when I think I am no longer interested in acquiring another china pattern, lo and behold, I find something that takes my breath away. This year, it is a pattern by Fitz and Floyd!

The very second I laid my eyes on this pattern, it spoke to me of spring....
everything anew, with soft sky blues and light mint greens.

I cannot believe I have never used my swans as a centerpiece before.
They are probably over twenty years old and just spoke Spring to me this year.

To me, this pattern sings a song and brings a certain charm to the dining table.

I wish Mother were here to see this. She would have loved this pattern in her formal dining room.

Despite our overscheduled lifestyles and a culture obsessed with instant gratification, we should take the time to honor the ceremony of formal dining no matter what the occasion. It can prove to be your family's solace and refuge from stress...one of those refined creature comforts that transcends the passage of time.

There is a touch of romance revealed in this pattern.....butterflies with wings spread in mid-flight.....

The colors are soothing and dreamy

To me, it's like nature combined with historical designs
Of course, there should always be a touch of whimsy, hence the rabbit cups

Gather round the table......getting home is what they look forward to......

Our children enjoy each other's company...perhaps more so now as adults,
than they sometimes did when they were younger

As mothers, we define our style that draws each of the children back home.

Mother always taught me to hold on to the things passed down,
whether the object suited my tastes or not and
that there is untold value in something well loved
by someone you loved as well.

We do share our love for our family and an affinity for creating beautiful spaces.

Laughter ranks highly among our family activities, and the grandchildren are the ringleaders!

  2. I enjoyed reading your thoughts about family dinners. It's about so much more than the food, isn't it? Connections, sharing, passing along family history, making memories, beauty. A daily meeting of the hearts.
