It just had to be a pie day. To me, there is nothing better than baking an old, yet treasured recipe. This pie was one that Miss Annie Dean used to make and serve when we had spend the night parties. I was the younger sister that was a "tag-along" with the big girls. Annie Dean was held in high regard as one of the best cooks in Mississippi. This recipe was originally published on the back of a Pet Milk evaporated milk can. It's easy to prepare and turns out perfectly each time. Miss Annie knew how much Daddy liked this pie, so she often made two and brought him one as a little surprise!

Sweet Chocolate Coconut Pecan Pie
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup butter
4 ounces of sweet baking chocolate
½ cup Evaporated Milk
1 t. vanilla
4 eggs
1 cup coconut
½ cup chopped pecans
1 unbaked 9 inch pie shell

Heat oven to 350 degrees F. In a medium sauce pan, combine sugar, butter and chocolate. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth. Remove from heat and cool about 5 minutes.

Add evaporated milk, vanilla and eggs. Beat well together. Sprinkle coconut and pecans in the bottom of the unbaked pie crust.

Pour the chocolate mixture over the coconut pecan layer. Bake for 30-45 minutes.

  1. Wow, that's a beauty (with a hefty price tag)! However, I couldn't stop scrolling through twice to see every detail in the rooms and the garden was magnificent. Then, there is this amazing pie with two of my favorite flavors; I've never thought about adding coconut to the pecan and chocolate, but you have a winner here, XOXO

  4. I love that historic house in Maine. What a beauty! Your pie recipe sounds so good. When I calls for sweet baking chocolate I'm not sure what it means. Is it powdered or the squares of chocolate? Thanks Estelle. :)

    1. Hi Pamela....she is one gorgeous home isn't she? I used milk chocolate chips when making this pie. You can also use a German chocolate baking bar or Baker's Milk Chocolate squares! Would be even better with ice cream of whipped cream. of course!
