"I have
come to regard November
as the older, harder man's October.
I appreciate the
early darkness and cooler temperatures.
It puts my mind in a different place
than October.
It is a month for a quieter, slightly more subdued celebration
of
summer's demise as winter tightens its grip."

There was nothing quite like it...
the feeling of an autumn day, the sunset across the lake,
the sounds of the country and steaks on the grill...
a cocktail hour with family and the happiness
from the wedding lingered....in my heart for all times....
and all of the beautiful dinners we have enjoyed with family....
remembering all the long late afternoon walks we took
with Mother and Daddy, late afternoon coffee in the living room...
the hustle and bustle of dinner preparations
while football played on television and the sounds
of the children playing outdoors....

Thanksgiving day is magical...and becomes a special tradition
of GATHERING...
of GATHERING...
My grandchildren have always loved the tradition of pouring
a cup of Spiced Tea when they arrive...
I love that....

The Divine Miss M makes a most delicious pumpkin pie...
there will be apple pie for the boys....

This all looks and sounds like a lovely traditional holiday. Enjoyed your sweet painting for your menu. Sandi
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny? I spend so much time going thru recipes and planning new dishes to add to the old....I spend the whole week before Thanksgiving day cooking...not to mention the shopping an.d prepping. And usually by the time we sit down for the meal...I'm exhausted and my ol' body aches......when in reality, all my kids really want the tradition of the day itself, which includes the exact same meal that I prepared when they were all little bitty.
ReplyDeleteSo, it's taken me this long to acknowledge it. Nothing new this yr...just the same things they ask for each and every year.....turkey, (one fried, one roasted) dressing, gravy, mashed taters, sweet potato casserole, broccoli
and cheese. Rolls. Chocolate pies.....several!!!! No over thinking. No new recipes. Just what my 45, 44 and 39 yr old sons desire.......MY!!! I feel like I've been freed by not over thinking!!!!!
We have basically the same meal every year too! We love it!
