MOTHERS HOLIDAY SPICED TEA

One of my fondest memories of childhood during the fall months
was Mother's Spiced Tea....there was always that big pot
left on the stovetop which held the most delectable hot tea....
she was given this recipe by her dear friend in Vicksburg....
you knew it was Autumn when the Spice Tea was made...
the days turned blustery...it was the annual television event
of the Wizard of Oz.....and Mother's tea....
I was the luckiest little girl in the world.......

I treasure this recipe which Mother jotted down
on the back of a bank deposit slip way back when
we lived in Vicksburg...my birth place.....

For this holiday Spiced Tea, I love
using my Johnson Brothers tea cups...just like Mother did!

I find that this is my favorite set to use for both
THANKSGIVING AND CHRISTMAS....

I have tweaked Mother's recipe just a bit
and my version is below...it is the perfect taste of
holidays past......

HOLIDAY SPICED TEA
6 cups of water
1 t. ground cloves
1 cinnamon stick
6 large tea bags
3/4 cup orange juice
1/4 cup pineapple juice
3/4 cup sugar
2 T. lemon juice

Bring water , along with cloves and cinnamon stick to a boil.
Remove from heat and add the tea bags..allow to steep to desired strength.

In a small sauce pan, blend juices and  sugar together
and heat to a boil.
Remove from heat, and add to the tea.
Blend together well....serve hot!

Wishing You....
serenity and an unhurried holiday season

  1. My kettle is heating as I am writing this. It is so cold out and the only thing that warms me up is a cup of tea. I am definitely going to try your tea. I need to go to the grocery store to pick up a few of the ingredients. Rumor has it that it's a bit nippy in TX. Stay warm and have a wonderful weekend, Betsy.

  2. I will have to give this recipe a try...perhaps tomorrow when I will have guests who enjoy tea. Your mother’s recipe looks so pretty in that photo nestled into the faux crabapples.

  3. I love that beautiful china. Your mother's recipe , how nice you have it, in her own writing. I think it would be great to come home to spice tea on cold days. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie

  4. What a wonderful treasure....one of your Mom's handwritten favorite recipes. I love that it was written on the back of a bank deposit slip. She had beautiful handwriting.

My parents have been gone 30+ yrs, but I still have a few letters and a recipe from my Mom. Sadly, my Moms recipe is starting to show real signs of age. I have one postcard from my Dad to my Mom. I have a few pictures of my parents...but having something handwritten by them transports me back in time.

  6. this wonderful post brought bittersweet tears to my eyes.
the year my husband died he managed to buy an entire set of that china for me
for Christmas. it was before the age of computers.
he had called various antique dealers around the city I guess.
I don't know how he did it to this day! but such wonderful love.
thank you for the tea recipe. and the tiny gem of a video. XO
