NEW BOOKS THAT WILL TICKLE YOUR FANCY

I have had a love for cookbooks from the time I can remember.
I used to sit for hours and browse through Mother's cookbooks
which I suppose was an unusual thing to do as a child.
My sister, Miss Judy and I loved baking brownies,
lemon freeze and chocolate chip cookies which we proudly
served to Daddy for a special treat.

I purchased my very first cookbook, while I was a
student at Ole Miss and was certainly in my element
enjoying my home economics classes.

If you are a cookbook fanatic like me,
then you may want to add these to your own collection.

The Sister Schubert cookbook was a gift from my sister.
She came across this gem at an estate sale and lo and behold....
it's a signed copy!
Needless to say, I was over the moon......

Isn't this marvelous?

This is one reason I read cookbooks...
when life stories are told and photos about family are included...

I love Meredith Laurence's, also known as The Blue Jean Chef,
style of cooking...she's easy, down-to-earth and loves dogs!
Her recipes are comfort food, yet nutritious!
Her latest cookbook allows you to use your Dutch Oven,
Instant Pot, Slow Cooker or Air Fryer.

This recipe had me at HELLO...
Kielbasa, Pierogies and Sauerkraut Bake!

The Sloppy Joe Casserole is going to be perfect on a cold night
in February!

And, then there's INA......my all time favorite Chef!
Her recipes are simplistic and feature whole foods at their finest!

I have found her Spinach Gratin to be THE perfect holiday side dish.

And, in the fall season, this rustic Apple Crostata will be
the most delicious dessert for holiday gatherings!

I think Reese Witherspoon is darling and knows how
to feature a Southern Lifestyle at it's finest!

She must have learned from the best....her Mother and Grandmother
taught her well at being the hostest with the mostest!

I chose to make her Mama's Buttermilk biscuits first and
yes, they were scrumptious..even though she looks as if
she does not eat many biscuits!

Her book covers all sorts of occasions with
fabulous ideas and recipes for entertaining friends and family.

Each recipe is accompanied by beautiful photos, stories and ideas
for creating a beautiful setting!

I think everyone enjoys being a guest at someone's home
who prepared homemade tiny bites which taste out of this world..
are you thinking of a Kentucky Derby party....then be sure
to add this to your menu!

Lastly, I have added yet another Kennedy book to my collection....
I found Rosemary to be the prettiest of the Kennedy women and so
very sad to learn of her difficult childhood and tragic adult life.
Life today would have been far different for her.....but
perhaps learning of her story can teach others how to love and tenderly care
for their children.

  1. WOW! as one cookbook collector to another, these are fantastic! I have been collecting cookbooks for many years, and was given two new ones for Christmas, one was signed by the author! The other had a beautiful written note by the giver,(my sister) comparing my cooking skills with my mother, I cried! I always enjoy reading your blog, you make every dish seems so doable and delicious.

  2. You've featured some books I would love to read..or have! I love Reese W. and this would be a fun book to read. I actually got a few old cookbooks out this weekend and enjoyed looking through them...and got some ideas for things I want to cook! Hugs!

  3. I've been wanting to read Reese's book, and now I just may have to see if I can get it from my library. I'm not a big cookbook reader, but I do like reading the personal stories in some cookbooks.

  4. Have been hearing a lot about Reese Witherspoon’s cookbook...like you say, she doesn’t seem to eat many biscuits, which is why I’m more of an Ina Garten person. I trust her a bit more. 😉 Truth is, if we only read cookbooks, we’d be all set.

  5. Great cookbooks! I collect old ones and handwritten ‘receipts.’ I love looking at the vintage paper and old fashioned writing.....
I suppose it’s natural for us to be drawn to cookbooks and recipes. Preparing and serving food is the same as giving comfort. I made a big pot of Taco Soup yesterday and have divided it up to give away - saving one container for us! A funeral, a friend who lives alone and seldom gets home cooking, and a shut in. Plus a big container for Summer! Reading recipes, cooking and serving these recipes....it’s how we show our love. Thank you for sharing so much love with us. I personally have a whole stash of recipes you have shared on your blog and I use many of them time after time!

  9. In the quiet of the night, I’d much rather snuggle in with a good cookbook more than a novel! My husband thinks that’s crazy Hahahaha...he never seems to mind the food I cook tho!!
