CLEANING BRASS TIPS

Remember those old brass candlesticks I found tucked away
in the garage.
I initially thought I would just leave them looking tarnished and aged,
but the more I looked at them, I thought they could use
a good polishing!
Did you know that Bar Keepers Friend is a beautiful and somewhat
easy way to restore brass to looking new again?

Using a soft towel or cloth, pour dabs of Bar Keepers Friend onto the cloth
and rub the brass gently until the tarnish has rubbed off.

Yes Ma'am, it's just that easy and I am loving the new look!

How many times have you passed up a old tarnished Brass piece
in an Estate Sale because it looked old and dingy?

I love, love. love them!
So many fond memories these candlesticks bring back....
I am so glad I kept them!

Things you have had a long time mean something....
they hold treasured memories of special times.....

  1. I love Barkeeper's Friend for my stainless steel sink, and its great at getting fork marks off of white plates and bowls. Is this a special formulation for brass?

  2. Betsy, I have a lot of silver pieces that need cleaning. It's a chore...but oh once it's done, I love the sparkle. I used to collect brass candlesticks, sold them in a yard sale before moving here. I love the way you have decorated the mantle. So pretty. Blessings to you and yours, xoxo, Susie

  4. Hi Betsy,

I love your blue and white bunny mug -- would love to have one of those! :D I have some brass candlesticks almost identical to yours that my mother-in-law gave me years ago. I think I used them on my table at Christmas this year. Yours are lovely.

I'm so glad you told us about the Barkeeper's Friend for polishing brass; I never knew about that. I've always used Brasso and it works well. I need to re-polish the sconces on my dining room wall so they'll be gleaming again. Little things like that really make a difference in our homes, don't they?

I agree with you about our old family pieces; they really are treasures and, in a small way, keep us connected with those precious family members who passed them along to us. Have a great day, Betsy!!

    Big hugs,

    Denise at Forest Manor

  5. Great tip! I use Bar Keeper’s Friend on my white enamel sink, but now I may shine up some brass. I have my great-great grandparents’ candlestick carrier...the early version of a flashlight I guess. Your candlesticks look beautiful on your mantel and your Valentine header is beautiful as all your headers are.

  6. I love Bar Keepers Friend for removing all kinds of marks on vintage kitchen items, But I never thought to try it on my mother's brass candlesticks. I prefer them tarnished for autumn, but polished for the other seasons. Thanks

  7. Good ole Bar Keeper's Friend! Your candlesticks turned out beautifully. I use it to polish the copper bottom pans. BKF also makes a spray cleaner and a toilet bowl cleaner. Made right here in Indianapolis!

  8. Bar Keepers Friend is a must for me, i accidentally turned a burner on a pan with nothing in it last week, when I found it the bottom was black, I almost threw it out, but decided to use Bar Keepers, it came out spotless.
You are so right the things we have had hold special memories,

    Happy Valentine's Day
