"TAKE SOME HOME WITH YOU" SPICE BARS

What's going on in Atlanta?

The Divine Miss M just knew I would fall in love with these wreaths!
They belong to a friend of hers and she sent me the picture as a tease..
making me salivate at the mere thought of a trip to Michael's!
I challenged her to create one similar for dear ole' Mom!
A dramatic and festive entrance don't you agree?

Miss M has been sprucing up the deck on these beautiful October days!
Oh the glorious colors of fall! I so wish I had her touch!

I love their new outdoor lantern they installed this past summer!
And...that antique iron gate made a huge difference in this corner!

I love her mixtures of plants that she used in this pot..
would it be horrible for me to be a copycat?

I love the lavender pansies.....

Taking a peep inside, she decorated her new centerpiece box with perfect touches of the harvest!
I beleive I see she also did a pretty display on the mantle over the stove!
Believe me, when I visit the Atlanta house, I could spend hours cooking in this glorious kitchen!

This is just stunning, M!

Now..onto those spice bars! You know what makes this a taste of autumn?
Glorious cranberries and all of the yummy spice!
Hope y'all enjoy this one!

This recipe is courtesy of Carole Covington and "Y'all Come Over!"
She always bakes these bars for book club and states everyone arrives early,
as these bars never last very long!

The Bars
2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1/2 t. salt
1 t. baking soda
1 t. cinnamon
3/4 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup honey
1 large egg, beaten
1 cup pecans, chopped
1 cup dried cranberries

The Glaze
1 T. water
1 T. mayonnaise
1 t. vanilla
1 cup powdered sugar

Making the Bars: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Mix together the flour, sugar, salt, baking soda and cinnamon in a large bowl and set aside. In a small bowl, mix together the vegetable oil,  honey and beaten egg. Pour the egg mixture over the flour mixture, stirring to combine. Add the pecans and cranberries. Fold into the batter. This mixture will be somewhat stiff, Press this evenly into a 9" x 13" baking pan and bake for about 20 minutes. Glaze while the bars are hot and allow to cool before slicing.

Making the Glaze: In a small bowl, combine the water, mayo and vanilla. Add the powdered sugar and stir until smooth. Drop by spoonfuls onto the bars and spread evenly!
