THE TRANSITIONAL DINING TABLE

Looking out the window, it appears that winter is lingering. However, our thoughts spring forward as we long for spring and the rebirth of mother earth. I want to see green.....daffodils and forsythia!

The dining table was bare. I needed to come up with some sort of design which would not represent a cold winter scene, but perhaps a transitional winter/spring look. I thought of my vase, which I had actually purchased last Thanksgiving. I love this vase! Think of all the ways you can use something like this during all kinds of occasions. I began with faux hydrangeas, in soft muted colors of ivory, burnished bronze and soft blush. I then wanted to jazz up the vase somewhat, so I found a French floral image I liked, with a background of a burlap look. Perfect!

I adhered the paper image to photo paper and then glued the picture on the vase. I liked it. I was going for a look of rustic winter, using a somewhat dressier burlap woven placemat and woven chargers. I also brought out a set of dinnerware I have had for a long, long time designed by Cheri Blum called Rose Bouquet. It has very soft, muted shades of taupes, olives and pinks.

I knew when I purchased these placemats, I would not only be able to use them at Christmas, but they represented more of a winter feel with the rough texture and the bare tree branches. The tree is adorned with tiny chocolate sequins which dress it up a bit! The woven charges can be used for any season you wish! I try to purchase these types of household décor which will have a multitude of uses.

The woven table runner was purchased for Jennyfer and Greg's wedding shower.
I used it for a beach themed shower and wanted a seagrass look.
Now it's incorporated into the rustic winter transitional formal dining table. Love!
Using all the muted taupe colors, I decided to use rose pink napkins
which I had bought for my mother years ago.
The napkin rings are of woven metal.
The perfect accent for these types of textures.

I used Mother's sterling silver since it's rather vintage and is designed with sweetheart roses.
The two wine goblets I selected are chocolate crystal
which I purchased at Stein Mart many years ago.

I accented the tablescape with birch candles and that
darling little pottery barn gift from the Divine Miss M!

The centerpiece!
The two side crystal goblets are very, very old.
They belonged to Grandmother Estelle and are in the most lovely shade of lilac!

There is someplace in my heart for birds.
I find them sweet and seem to put them in all kinds of little places!
I adore these....I keep them in my living room with all of my mercury glass.
 Precious and delicate!

I hope it turned out warm and inviting! Now to plan the menu!

What I love about this the most, is that it did not cost a dime.
It represents something new from my darling daughter and something vintage,
from my beloved Mother and Grandmother!
This warms my heart and makes me happy!

  2. It looks very pretty. The colours are nice for February and you have a hint of spring in the hydrangeas and birds. I always enjoy candle light but find our days are growing brighter at suppertime so am not using them as much now. Have a great day!
