HOBBIES AFTER RETIREMENT

I was asked the other day about retirement
and what you do when you find life has slowed
a bit from the hustle and bustle of raising children
and work activities!
How do you fill your days!
My sister is still working hard four days out of the week,
and I think she is a bit nervous about how she will
do, when she finally retires.
Keep in mind, she is in her early 70's......

Some women love going out every single day....
shopping for new outfits, having standard appointments
at their favorite salon to style their hair, relaxing with
mani/pedi's and then dining out with friends....
In fact, I have been amazed at the You Tubers
who shop daily at Sephora buying expensive
make-up, creams and lotions, in addition
to those crafters who have transformed their
house into a duplicate of Hobby Lobby!
Some plan their cruises and trips abroad...they dream big!
They are doing what makes them happy,
as we all try to do, right?

As "we" are not fully retired, I suppose you could
say my dreams are a little less than all that...
So these are activities I enjoy now that I find myself
an empty nester and retired from working outside the home.

Number 1 would be creating and sharing on my blog...Estelle's

Creating in the kitchen and making it truly the heart of our home....

We love entertaining

Baking

Decorating our home is a true passion of mine!

Photography....
when living in Maine,
one of my sons asked me to send them photos
of the lovely places we go and talk about......
and so it began.......

My Daddy so loved photography as a hobby,
so my hope is that he would be proud that I continued
one of his passions!

Creating floral arrangements

Scrapbooking and Journaling

Crafting and Do-It-Yourself Pretty projects

Cross Stitch

Swimming and enjoying afternoons Pool side

Relaxing on the patio and being one with nature

Reading

Here we go....Sand in my toes.....

Loving trips to the beach with my Mr. Wonderful

Gardening

And last but certainly not least....Perhaps not really a hobby,
but loving a pet is good for your soul......
loving Mae Mobley every single minute of the day!
Now, I would so love for y'all to tell me YOUR favorite hobbies!!!
It's all about doing what you love and loving what you do!

  1. You forgot gardening! I think you enjoy that, too. Well my hobbies are similar to yours except I no longer cross stitch and I seldom cook. Oh and I don’t decorate as much as you do. And I don’t take too many photos anymore. Goodness, I was just flattering myself to say that my hobbies are similar to yours. 😏

  3. Oh I so enjoyed this post! As I think all that you enjoy doing does create a beautiful life...
Being home and just being able to do the things I love at my pace. I am able to stay home and read and journal and of course to blog. But just being able to take a nap here and there!
    Hugs, Roxy

  4. There is so much to enjoy doing in life, whether retired or not! I have so many interests, like you do, and it amazes me that people could wonder what they'll do when they stop working. I always think there's not enough time (or funds) to do what I'm interested in doing!

I like what Living from Glory to Glory said in her comment: "I think all that you enjoy doing does create a beautiful life."

    1. Hi Deanna....you know, I was actually surprised to hear that the four employees in my sister's office, (a doctor's office) are so afraid to retire as they can't think of anything to do all day...perhaps they can start their own blog!!! I am sure they will all find their way...I hope you share photos of your lovely home as fall comes into the world..big hugs!

  6. Betsy, My goal for retirement was having a walking hobby and a sitting hobby. In case something would happen that you could no longer get around you need a slower hobby. I loved junking, looking for bargains to rework or repurpose. But honestly there's days I wish I was still working...the routine of it all. I thought retirement would be wearing nice things and going to lady luncheons....no it's still working without getting paid. LOL. There's good days and bad days in everything. I just read BJ's comment and your answer....that would be a hard change to work thru, if one ever could. Blessings to you and yours, xoxo, Susie

    1. Susie...it's a huge adjustment...a big change for us all who worked for years outside the home. I love that you shared your goals for being at home these days......one thing you do appreciate in growing older is enjoying as many celebrations as you can while the good days are present...love you to pieces...have a lovely weekend!

  7. Love, love retirement. It's the best thing ever. I knit, crochet, bake, garden, decorate, meet friends for coffee, go camping, hang with my hiusband, happy hours with friends, try to read, love being home....keep very busy. It's fabulous! The weeks just fly by.

  8. I never really had a career.....I’ve always loved homemaking so I guess that’s been my passion my entire life. I can’t imagine waking up in the morning and wondering what I could do that day. I wake up thinking there’s no way I’m going to get it all done. Louis Dean says he’s going to have to live to be 115 to get all he wants to do done. I love how you live your life and how you share it with us. I’ve come to know your family through your blog and I admire them all.
