ESTELLE'S PORK ROAST AND SAUERKRAUT

I woke up missing home....in Mississippi.
New Years Day....
Mother always had on The Rose Parade,
a Pork Roast in the oven
and
the formal dining table set for our New Year's Day dinner.

I never in my life remember Mother serving Black-eyed peas...never!!

But, the darling does insist on them...you know, for good luck!

And so....our New Year's dinner is tradition....
Pork Roast and Sauerkraut, Mashed Potatoes, Black Eyed Peas and Green Peas..
Good Luck and Good Fortune...money honey!

Now, I will brag on my pork roast...
it is AMAZING!!!!

Since it's just the two of us now,
I buy a pork loin, rather than a roast.
I always buy the marinated Herb and Garlic Hormel Pork loin.
Brown it on all sides in olive oil.
Place it in the crock pot....
add one can of French Onion Soup
and
one jar of Sauerkraut...
cook on low for 6-8 hours....
Marvelous I tell you...perfect every time...
and the aroma alone will make your tummy growl........

Then it was on to an afternoon matinee......

We saw The Big Short....
fast paced....
Great Acting....
Very complicated!

Now y'all go out and make it a great day!

  2. Have never seen that particular pork, but bet it is yummy. And with sauerkraut. Husband would like that! :-)

Thinking he would enjoy that movie, also. Well "enjoy" isn't the right word. Rather, find it interesting.

And anything in a crock pot, is wonderful, to me!

    1. I would recommend the movie...it's certainly insightful as what happened to the house market crash in 2008....made alot of people rich....have a try at the pork roast....I think you will enjoy it!

Can you pass along what brand of sauerkraut you use?? French onion soup... i had no idea... wonder if mom put that in there too... Ofcourse she didnt use a crock pot but stood over the stove... i LOVE my crock pot however! Hugs! deb

  9. Once long time ago I would make spareribs with sauerkraut so I think that counts. I remember that it had caraway seeds in it. I don't eat sauerkraut much, maybe I should. Your New Years plate loves divine but for me, somehow the green peas just don't fit. I am not sure why. Maybe it's the two peas together. Am I being weird? I do that sometimes.
