PINEAPPLE BUTTERMILK PIE!

I make it a point to have a good arsenal of delicious recipes I can bake up when we have family over for dinner! They will often request a good pie, rather than cake for a sweet treat! A buttermilk pie is a southern staple and when you add crushed pineapple....well it's an even sweeter deal! Mother used to serve this Pineapple Buttermilk Pie for Sunday dinner, along with her delicious homemade roast and vegetables! Now, those were some fabulous days!

If you are having a family dinner soon, or expecting guests over for dinner,
then you may enjoy serving this fabulous southern dessert!

PINEAPPLE BUTTERMILK PIE
1 (9-inch) deep dish pie crust
2 cups sugar
¼ cup flour
¼ t. baking soda
1/8 t. salt
¼ t. nutmeg
1 cup buttermilk
½ cup butter, melted
3 large eggs
1 t. lemon extract
1 t. vanilla extract
1 (8 ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. In a medium sized mixing bowl, sift all dry ingredients. In a separate bowl, combine all wet ingredients. Add the dry to the wet ingredients and mix with hand mixer until well blended. Fold in drained crushed pineapple. Pour into unbaked pie shell and sprinkle with nutmeg. Bake
for 50-60 minutes. Allow to cool before slicing.

  1. Yesterday, was the beginning of Chinese New Year and one we have celebrated over 5 years with the addition of two beautiful little granddaughter--one from Taiwan and one from China. Pineapple is a very lucky ingredient during this time and you see special little cakes in the bakeries in Asia. I think this change up would be delightful for our family dinner to celebrate this time; I happen to love Buttermilk Pie. Thank you for this wonderful recipe, dear friend. Kung Hei Fat Choy, XOXO

    1. I am thinking of you too Roxy! I made a copy of your homemade cough syrup.....wonderful! This pie is a little sweet so the next time I bake this, I may reduce the sugar to 3/4 cup. A buttermilk pie is scrumptious....enjoy!!!

  3. Estelle, I am making this pie tomorrow! It sounds exactly like the kind of pie my husband has been begging for. His mother used to make it.. THANK you for taking the trouble to give us the recipe! AND thank you SO much for liking my wallpaper. I know it's not for everyone! I felt you really meant what you said! Now I am off to Amazon to see if I can find a quilt as pretty as yours. Is it twin size??
    Love,

    1. I so hope y'all enjoy the recipe Mona! Good warm or cold! The quilt is actually a throw, so it was the perfect size for the table! I was searching for "toile throw" on Amazon and it was only about $40. It's also reversable! And yes....I LOVE your new wallpaper. It can just transform a room, can't it? Have a lovely weekend dear one!
