THE SUMMER READING CORNER

 The Summer Reading Corner

What's on your summer reading list?

We love the Bush family! All of them! I had previously read Barbara Bush’s memoir and now have been fortunate enough to have received this lovely memoir of Mrs. Laura Bush, one of my favorite first ladies!

This is her story which begins with her early life growing up in Midland, Texas, all the way through the White House years and presidential life. I find her to be an eloquent writer when talking of her husband, her daughters, and her personal trials. What a fantastic summer read this is going to be!

Probably many of you have seen the movie of Philomena! I simply adore Dame Judy Dench and found Philomena’s entire story mesmerizing. I could not wait to order the book and read this poignant true story of such an extraordinary woman. It’s rather hard to imagine her heroic search for her son and the courage she exhibited throughout the years.

 I had read this book many years ago and wanted to reread this story of Sala. On the eve of her scheduled heart surgery in 1991, Sala presented her daughter with over 350 letters, photographs and a diary, which chronicled her life as a Holocaust survivor. For five years as a young girl, she was confined as a slave in seven different Nazi work camps. This book is written by her daughter, Ann Kirschner. It is a true testament to the human spirit.

Now for my fun read! You may be familiar with Carole Radziwill from the cast of The New York City Housewives! She is a rather interesting character in among all the other cast members. My personal favorite is Countess LuAnn De Lesseps, as she always exhibits class and saneness! Carole would be my second favorite. Now you simply must have a fun, fictional read in the summer months! This should be a fun and zany ride….

"Books are the quietest and most constant of friends;
they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors,
and the most patient of teachers. "
