THE READING CORNER..HERE'S WHAT BOOKS HAVE BEEN ADDED TO OUR LIBRARY FOR AUTUMN

I adore BOOKS!
I prefer a good solid beautiful BOOK in my hand
to indulge in my pleasure for reading.
No kindle, no download....a beautiful BOOK!

I am currently reading one and plan to start the second
one in a few months!

My current read is
THE NIGHTINGALE
by
Kristin Hannah

"In the pale glow of the chandelier, she saw defeat deepen
the lines of her father's cheeks.
His shoulders slumped.
He poured himself another brandy and gulped in greedily.
"There are no parties to attend, he said and
all your university boys are gone."
The Nazi's stormed in one day and pulled out
all our books, Freud, Mann, Trotsky, Tolstoy...all of them....
they burned them along with our music.....
this is hardly a time for gentler pursuits."

Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of WWII
and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen,
the women's war. THE NIGHTINGALE tells the story
of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals
and passion...each choosing a different path of love, survival and
freedom in German occupied France.
This is a heartbreaking beautiful novel that celebrates
the resilience of the human spirit and the
durability of women.

THE NIGHT SISTER
by
Jennifer McMahon
is chilling, dark and compelling.....
perfect for an October read.....

"Rose turned and took off running, running as fast as her legs would take her,
up the driveway, her bare feet pounding on the pebbles, her eyes
focused on the house.
She did not dare look back.
Behind her, she heard the rush of wings coming closer....closer still....
Heart hammering, she reached the front door at last.
She pulled it open and slammed it close, locking it quickly!
There was no way her mother would believe what she had just seen....
she scarcely believed it herself......"

The Tower Motel was once a thriving attraction of rural Vermont.
Today it lies in disrepair, alive only in the memory of three women,
Amy, Piper and Margot....who played in the motel as children.
Their came the day their innocent exploring of abandoned rooms
uncovered something dark and twisted that ruined their friendship forever.

THE DUCHESS OF WINDSOR
by
Diana Mosley

I have always been fascinated by the love story of
the Duke and Duchess of Windsor....I have finally purchased
the book written by Diana Mosley, who was one of the infamous Mitford Sisters.

At a dinner party in Paris in the late 1960's, a "truth" game was being played.
One of the guests was the Duke of Windsor, who, when asked what he
would wish for if he had one wish, turned to the Duchess and answered, "you!"
Diana Mosley found this intriguing and telling....the starting point
for her quest for an understanding of the Duchess of Windsor.
For, ever since her sensational arrival in the centre of the British scene,
Wallis Warfield has been endlessly discussed and written about,
yet remains an profound enigma.
Diana Mosley came to now the Duke and Duchess quite well
during their long sojourn in France...........

And last but certainly not least....a new cookbook has been added!
Who doesn't love Valerie Bertinelli?
This is her first cookbook which I purchased off Amazon
in the used books, and she now has a brand new book out
which was recently featured on QVC.

I have made the Italian Love Cake before from a different
recipe, but plan on trying hers next week.
By the way, she is selling this cake made to order
for $68.54 on QVC..in fact, she sold out!
Seriously?

  3. I love to read, and I love real books! You're the second person to mention The Nightingale recently. The book that caught my eye is the book on the Duchess of Windsor. I'll have to see if our library system has it!

  4. I just jotted The Night Sister down to get it from the library. I just donated at least 1000 books to St. Vinnies. It has been one of the hardest things for me to let go. I do not like Nook or Kindle. I want to hold a real book in my hands.

That is CRAZY that someone would pay that much for a cake and HOW the heck do they ship it so it doesn't get all yucked up?!

Have a great Wednesday- xo Diana

  7. Oooh, The Nightingale sounds wonderful! My book club just finished Firefly Lane. It was funny because I started reading and kept knowing what was about to happen...then I realized I read it years ago when it first came out. I'm going to find The Nightingale. :)

By the way, your blog looks so beautiful for fall.
