CINNAMON ROLLS..HOMEMADE AND HOT FROM THE OVEN

This is a recipe that is tried and true.
If you learn to bake anything....
learn to bake homemade cinnamon rolls.
He will fall in love with you all over again!

This recipe is from my mothers old
Better Homes and Gardens cookbook
from the 1940's!
It's simply the best
and
the only one I have ever used!

BASIC ROLL DOUGH
1 package active dry yeast
¼ cup warm water
1 cup milk, scalded
1/4 cup sugar
¼ cup butter
1 t. salt
3 ½ cup flour (all-purpose)
1 egg

Soften yeast in warm water. Combine milk, sugar, butter and salt in a mixing bowl. Allow to cool slightly to lukewarm temperature. Add 1 ½ cups flour, and mix well. Beat in the softened yeast and egg. Gradually add the remaining dough, beating well. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the surface. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 2 hours.

Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll out into a rectangle. Spread the cinnamon/sugar mixture over the dough evenly. Then roll the dough into a log-shape. Cut into even rounds, place onto a cookie sheet or baking pan, cover and let rise again until doubled, about two hours. Bake at 375 degrees F. for 10-12 minutes. Ice with confectioner’s icing.

For the Cinnamon-Sugar Mixture
½ cup sugar
4 T. melted butter

2 rounded t. cinnamon

For the Icing

5 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
3 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon good vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
 5- 7 tablespoons warm milk

  2. Dear One,
Re: your comment on my blog... "The darker print is better, believe it or not." I do believe it. And thank you for replying to my blog look questions!!!!

Now may I speak of something here? If you like my darker print, could you consider making your print here, darker? For me, it would be helpful. And perhaps increase the size of your print? It is very small, to me. Again, I know, my eyes are older than most of your readers but..... Perhaps a bit larger print?

Or simply ask your Dear Readers, how your blog print looks/reads, to them? Perhaps I am the only one, who sees these things. And I'd not want you to make changes, just for me.

    Just a thought....

    Have a lovely weekend...

    Tessa

    1. Hi Tessa....I appreciate your request on this, however, I am well pleased with the font size and color print that I use currently. A larger font can be acheived for you by adjusting your own resolution which will help you read all your web sites. I use a normal size font in a dark gray, which is very readable to most. I do hope this solves the issue you are having...as always, thank you for visiting Estelle's!

Sometimes late at night, I have this insane desire to bake, so here I am, at 12:40 AM, mixing up a batch of this dough with the intention of having them ready for breakfast for my husband and son before they leave for a long and stressful work day. Thank you Estelle for sending me this email with this delectable recipe. Have no doubt they will taste great!
