It was THE day of the CHILI COOK OFF!
We have been somewhat
"adopted" by the beautiful friends
of Greg and Jenn's and all of their gatherings!
Last year, we attended their Progressive Dinner
and were now invited to the Chili Cook-Off!
Oh honey.....did the house smell good
with Greg's amazing
White Chicken Chili simmering away.....
it was so good to see the BoBo!
I am so proud of him....
he is a marvelous chef!
Their neighborhood transports you to a mountain
retreat feeling....all the homes are centered around
the winding lake which feeds into the Trinity River.
This is their sweet neighbors home which
is a custom built modern....Mark and Jamie,
who were hosting this fun event!
I will tell you, this is not a view
you have very often around here!
These views are just lovely....
a very unique house for sure!
I just love how they designed their kitchen.
This area is being hand built by both of them.
Mark plans to build a brewery house up there.
I believe there was a total of ten entries...
crockpots were hot and ready for tasting,
along with cornbread, onions, cheese, sour cream, crackers and Frito's!
This neighbor owns a bar/eating establishment in Fort Worth...
he made a Hatch Chili Stew....SPICY and DELICIOUS!
This is Miss Kennedy...
I voted her CUTEST KID EVER!
She gave me a science lesson on the care of turtles
found in the lake...she's one smart cookie!
This is EMMA....
who is a frail 16 years old!
She loves being carried all snug as a bug in her custom pouch!
Jamie is giving everyone tasting and voting instructions....
she is amazing...personality plus!
Some of the lovely neighborhood gang visiting with each other.....
Fun times.....
The taste testing was so much fun...and.....very filling!
Most everyone made a Frito pie after the contest was over...
me included!
First prize was the GOLDEN PLUNGER!
Mark's chili was voted first prize!
This was just a blast.....I think they plan to make this
an annual event....it's good to note
Mark's chili has been the winner twice!!!!
Congratulations to Mark. Hope there are no 'sore losers' so that you get invited back next year, too. What a GREAT home...and the views---WOW!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could eat some chili but with the meds I am on it just tears my stomach up...ugh...
I hope you have a wonderful, blessed Sunday, Betsy
Oh everything was fabulous Diana...a fun, fun evening with freezing temps...a perfect time for the cook-off!Hope you have a great week!
DeleteWhat a fun gathering! I love the idea of all those crock pots simmering away. An incredible setting in which to have it, too. That little dog looks so... nervous. Does the winner share his recipe for chili, or is that forbidden? I wonder what his secret is! -Jenn
ReplyDeleteHi Jenn....sweet Emma is a tiny little greyhound...she stays cold as she has no subcutaneous fat left...she is well loved and cared for...loves people! No, the recipe is a secret....nothing fancy but terrific spicy flavor! We love our Texas heat in chili! Thank you for visiting today and hope you enjoyed the post! Hugs!
DeleteWhat a great family fun time. Betsy you are so cute. I like that everyone tasted and voted. So funny, that trophy. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteOh thank you Susie......getting old! It sure was a fun evening! Have a lovely week!
Deleteawwww....I love that sweet puppy!!! and I now know I have to get one of those carriers..never thought about that, for my sophiejane who is 18 this yr. and she's so frail. blind and deaf and we are always tripping over her because she gets right under our feet, yet doesn't even know she is. that carrier would be perfect for her! (and another excuse for me to cuddle her!)
ReplyDeleteChili looks a-m-a-z-I-n-g!!!! and I do love me up some frito pie!!!
So cold here....just finished a big ol' pot of gumbo, myself.....was thinking it would be last batch of the season but if we keep on with these temps....brrrrrrrr....chili may be next week!!!
Can you believe how darn cold it is? I am ready for spring right this minute! I know your gumbo is amazing Janey....hope you can find this sling for Sophiejane...it's perfect for an elderly furbaby!
DeleteWhat a wonderful time with your family. Betsy, I talked to my #1 in Dallas over the weekend and it was colder there than it was here!! Stay warm.
ReplyDeleteHi Katie..yes, pretty cold last week but a warm up is coming...hope you have a good week too!
Deleteoh darling bean! that was just the best outing ever for mid winter!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that gorgeous little Miss Kennedy (look at that complexion!)
and the beautiful Emma could be there too.
fragile is the right word for Emma. and I would add precious.
I don't often use that word but she is like a little piece of old fine crystal.
and I can smell the delightful entries of chili from here! xo♥
