If you're going to San Francisco....be sure to wear some flowers in your hair..........
written by John Phillips and recorded by Scott McKenzie, 1967
Probably safe to say this was my all time favorite song from
my 60's teen years!
We are super excited (and also sad)
to congratulate son #1 on a very big promotion
and new job!!!!
It came about quite suddenly and this huge change
is in full swing right now....
they are relocating to San Francisco.
We are really beyond thrilled for them,
but for reasons as I am sure you can understand...
we will miss them terribly.
I think it's wonderful to live different places
throughout your life's journey....
experience new adventures....
I have never been to California, so this is
going to be a wonderful opportunity to plan
a vacation to tour San Fran and the Napa Valley!
If you have experience in California living,
especially SF....please share your tips with me!

Betsy, I am so happy for your son and his wife. I know that's a long way from your arms. That's the sad part. I will tell you I have visited San Fran. for one day. I actually flew to Reno, rented a car and drove there. I cried when I saw the Golden Gate Bridge, I was seeing things I never dreamed of seeing, as I thought the corner I was raised on was my universe. It will be nice when you can plan a trip there. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Susie...it's a huge change but a good one...I think....still coming to terms with it...say a prayer please!
DeleteCongrats to your son! Sounds like a wonderful oppotunity for him and his lovely wife. I hope that you will visit back and forth as often as possible. Alas, I have no San Francisco advice as I have never been to CA either. “Be a bright light” is the best advice; he seems to have that one covered.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you dear Vee....you are so precious to me!
DeleteSF is one of my all time favorite cities and I’ve been there many times and enjoyed every visit! You are going to have a ball!
ReplyDeleteSeveral times we stayed outside the city and took the T in as parking is so limited and driving is a challenge with all the hills! Oh, my! Golden Gate, Muir Woods, Cable Cars, Wine Country, Redwood Forests.......wonderful! Congratulations to your son!
Thank you so much Linda....as we have found out in our many moves, visiting and living someplace can be quite different.I am praying this all works out....at least for a few years. I worry about the high cost of living there....however, exciting journeys await I am sure....hugs!
DeleteI grew up in California. It is a beautiful place. These days there is a need to be careful in San Fran, as I am sure they know.
ReplyDeleteThe northern California coast is stunning!
Oh Deanna...this is going to be a huge change for them both...hoping its a good one. They plan to live across the bay, somewhere around Union City....please say a little prayer for them...warm hugs!
Deleteyou must be so proud of them! for daring to reach for that dream!
ReplyDeletethey are a beautiful young couple. every picture of them is pure happiness!
i know you will miss them but oh my... the adventures begin! i can see you packing now! LOL xoxo
HI Tammy...yes, we are very, very proud of him and both of them actually..just a huge jump out into the world....thanks for all the encouragement..sending hugs to you!
DeleteHow wonderful for your son!! We are headed to that area the end of May, my step-son is getting married. They live in Oakland, he works in San Francisco and the wedding is in Walnut Creek. We will do a little sight-seeing, but most of the time will be around the wedding!!
ReplyDeleteHI Nancy...so good to know. Have a wonderful time at the wedding. I know Walnut Creek has been an area suggested to them for a possible living area.....thank you for stopping by today!
DeleteCongrats to your son! I know you'll miss them but at least it's a wonderful place to visit. Enjoy your week, Betsy.
ReplyDeleteThank you Katie...it's a wonderful opportunity...so looking forward to a trip for wine tasting in Napa! Hope spring is showing today up in New England!
DeleteSan Francisco and Napa are prolly two of the most fun places I've been!! So much culture, so many things to do and see. You're going to love it SO much the first time you go that you will begin planning trips there before you even get home from the first one!!
ReplyDeleteWe live in Southern California and love the Bay Area as well as Napa Valley, Bodega Bay and Healdsburg area. When you get ready for a trip, will gladly share some of our favorite places. Huge congratulations to your son.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning REMOM....THANK YOU SO MUCH! I so appreciate this and the areas you love....so good to know...they are currently in transition and looking for a place to live! Here's hoping for a good move...it's a long way from Texas! Loved your visit today!
DeleteOur niece lives in Marin County - across the Golden Gate Bridge from the city. Such a beautiful area - Sausalito is just one charming area there - beautiful views of the SF Bay and SF skyline. You will love visiting them!
DeleteThank you, thank you.....I so appreciate your recommendations....warm hugs for sharing your thoughts with us!
DeleteI see you've received lots of comments but i'll add my two cents...Through my husbands job we had the opportunity to live in CA for three years.. three wonderful adventure filled years. Do not miss putting your feet in Lake Tahoe at Emerald Bay.. Its a bit of a walk but if you can manage it , it does not disappoint.. The sand at the bottom is full of fool's gold and as you walk through the water you kick up the sand and the fills the water with gold glitter.. absolutely gorgeous on a sunny day.. Muir Woods..and Muir Beach.. breathtaking.. If you go to Muir Woods before 9am you get in free.. Wonderful paths to walk and a if you don't want to hike up the hills they have a nice boardwalk path at the bottom that is just as nice and a nice gift shop.. Muir Beach is the first 'Live' beach i've been too.. Live star fish and live sea anemones.. go at low tide.. Pier 39... Lots of shopping and food and sea lions a merry go round.. yeah.. gotta go there.. oh and ride a trolley a unique SF experience.. The Farmers' Market at the Piers is pretty nice too.. I was disappointed with Monterey Bay Aquarium... maybe you won't be.. anyway... Oh and the Botanical Gardens in SF.. Oh and...lol well i could go on and on.. We are not wine drinkers so Napa Valley held no fascination with us.. Between the mountains and the beach i don't think theres ever a reason to be bored in CA.. Sorry if i went on a little much.. :) Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteOH Deb...thank you ever so much for this! It's such an overwhelming time for them....I feel things will fall into place eventually....it's just golden when people with knowledge and experience can guide you toward living and leisure in a new state! Big, big hugs for sharing today///hope you are doing well!
