THANKSGIVING PLANS

All roads lead us home...especially during the holiday season!
Oh how I wish this were true.....but this year of 2020,
we find ourselves changing up our Thanksgiving gathering.
We will be celebrating Thanksgiving day on Saturday
with our youngest, who will be home from Austin.
For this, I am thankful.

There will not be the formal dining table setting which
we have enjoyed the past number of years....
we will miss the laugher and conversation of all the family...
and instead, set a festive table in the kitchen for a gathering of three!

There will be hot apple cider to sip on throughout the day......

There will be his favorite green bean casserole.....

And there will be my homemade Pumpkin Pie....
which is the Libby's recipe....another tradition!
The menu will be much smaller....
Thanksgiving Day will certainly be different
with just the darling and me....
but you know what?
That's okay....perhaps we will put up the Christmas tree....
this is the very first year, I started decorating for Christmas
before Thanksgiving....

we need HAPPY and reasons to smile.....yes...
we need a little Christmas....right this very moment!
What will your Thanksgiving look like this year?

  1. Any time we gather with family is special! I often start my Christmas decorating Thanksgiving evening! Do it! Make your day special, you and your husband matter, too! I know people who don't decorate or do anything if the kids/grands aren't going to be there. I don't understand that! I decorate because its important to me, and I'm worth the effort! I know you do too!

  2. Oh, and my parents, and our sons family will be with us this year. Our married daughters will all be with their inlaws. I think my niece may join us as well. Her sisters all live in different states, and her parents live overseas in Africa.

  4. Betsy, I think our Thanksgiving will be just Ted and I. I think you will truly enjoy your young son while he is with you and your husband. I loved seeing your decorations. Oh yes, we do need a little Christmas, don't we?
Blessings to you and yours, xoxo, Susie

  5. Hi Betsy,

I love, love that church picture on your mantel!!! It's just so pretty in its simplicity and looks so peaceful. I sure would love to have a white Christmas this year, how about you? I'm very glad you'll be able to spend Thanksgiving with your son; we'll be seeing ours too. We will have the meal at my Mom's house, and there will be six of us all total. We ate at Hal's parents' last year.

Your turkey plates are beautiful. I wish I had chosen those instead of the ones I have. I don't often regret my dish choices, but that one, I kind of do. That's okay; it's a small thing in the grand scheme of things. Your door also looks very festive with the pretty fall wreath. Enjoy your Thanksgiving preparations, Betsy, and have a great week!

    Warm hugs,

    Denise at Forest Manor

    1. Oh Denise..how lovely to hear from you! I purchased my Thanksgiving dinnerware probably 30 years ago and have so loved using them every Thanksgiving! The canvas church print is from Kirklands....it was my inspiration piece for the mantel this year....I think your thanksgiving plans sound perfect...please take some photos and share them on your blog...wishing you a lovely week ahead!

  6. Not sure this year if it's just husband and I. Maybe two grands and their parents. I will decorate starting this week end on out side lights. I am looking forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas and if everyone can't be here that's o.k. I enjoy the lights here and riding the neighborhood seeing others with hot cocoa in a go cup with marshmallows. Your dinner sounds wonderful. Happy Thanksgiving. Betsy

    1. Hi Mitzi...to go from 17 to 2 is a huge change for Thanksgiving. Yes, it is the right thing to do right now....I wish you a lovely holiday and I know you will make it special....thank you so much for visiting today.

  8. Oh, I just answered this question at Kim's place. 🙂 I'll just say that it is "my turn" and I think it must be done traditionally with the six of us. Of course, if anyone is ill, things could change. That green bean casserole looks so delicious and I don't even care for it, though quite a few in the family do. I don't think you are using canned beans.

So many have decided to decorate early...it's fun to see from vlogs to blogs. A bit of Christmas cheer is very much in order!

    1. Texas is being hard hit right now with Covid so we must continue to distance. I want my world back. I hope you end up having a lovely THANKSGIVING DAY Vee....it's been a beautiful fall season. In fact, our grandson is now in quarantine as the football team has members now testing positive....you just never know. Sending you warm distant hugs.

  9. sigh....sometimes you really are in my brain!! Yes, this yr is going to very different. All the traditions that we have as a family prolly won't play out this year. Because we have two children with compromised immune systems and because the virus is hitting really close to us, we probably won't all gather together. Everyone is trying to decide what to do. I just told them to do what each one feels comfortable with ... that I will cook the traditional huge meal and if they only want to come get platefuls to take home with them, then that's fine. We totally understand. And if it only ends up being me and my boyfriend...then we'll eat till the cows come home and freeze the rest! We MUST stick to the rules so we all stay safe.
And ME...who defies decorating until Dec 1...already has my mantle decorated for Christmas! wha??????????
Why, I've got witches from halloween and Thanksgiving table decorated all while the twinkling xmas lights are shining!!!!! Whoa...a first for me!!! But YES....we do need happy and I'm willing to do anything to feel a little happy these days!!!!

    1. It is strange and I fully admit....somewhat depressing to me. Thanksgiving is our favorite holiday since it is all about family. I know you feel this way too Janey. I feel the grandchildren have changed so much since we have seen them last. I know you will prepare all your wonderful dishes and probably catch a glimpse of some of your boys..wishing you lovely one, whatever it looks like!

  10. I wrote this yesterday as an after thought but I may not have even hit the send button...the way my brain seems to work these days.
I made your praline custard pie last week. Oh My. Oh Me oh My!!!! My husband hardly ever eats pie after the first day. But this one? He ate and ate and ate until the whole pie was gone!!!!! Need to add this one to our holiday meals!!

  11. That pumpkin pie looks so delicious. Enjoy your Thanksgiving.
The covid is out of control here. We are in Red zone and not allowed to go out of our district, in Quebec, Canada.
So Christmas is cancelled here. It's a different year.
