Wedding Blessings..May...Ice Blue and Opulence!

Your Inspiration....Ice Blue...Prince Charming...Romantic Flowers such as Cream Lily of the Valley and Blue Hydrangea...a touch of chocolate and the unexpected....

May birthstone is the emerald symbolizing constant love.

May flower is the Lily of the Valley symbolizing sweetness and the return of happiness.

I am selecting ice blue hydrangeas (my favorite flower), creamy roses accented with chocolate ribbons....

The month of May....saying goodbye to spring and welcoming warmer months. However, May tends to hang on a little to blustery days . Let's go somewhere different...a little over the top...let's plan on something your family and guests will not necessarily expect. I found the perfect venue......

Hatley Castle is the perfect setting for weddings up to 100 people. Set amidst beautiful Japanese, Rose and Italian gardens - your wedding photographer can capture your entire event in one location - this 1908 Edwardian castle overlooks the Juan de Fuca Strait and distant glacier-capped Olympic Mountains.

Birds of a Feather Oceanfront Bed and Breakfast is like something straight out of a story book. Picture a 565 acre west coast forest, home to Hatley Castle and Gardens, and the Province's 10th largest Douglas Fir, the 5th largest Grand Fir, and some of the finest and oldest maple trees in North America. Then picture that forest on the shores of a 200 acre marine nature sanctuary in a tidal lagoon. All this and it's just a glance across the harbour from downtown on the western shoreline of Victoria's natural beaches.

Experience it with over 15km of hiking trails, 4km of beachcombing, a private dock, canoes, kayaks, and bicycles. This postcard is yours to enjoy and explore. And if all you wish to do is just experience the serenity of this place from an oceanfront balcony we got you covered there too!

Birds of a Feather is much more than "feel at home" west coast accommodations. We are also a destination for discerning nature and outdoor soft adventure enthusiasts. Enjoy the splendour of any one of our numerous nature parks and return home to watch eagles, osprey, seabirds, otters, seals, eagles and much more from your balcony, or curl up in front of the fireplace in your private suite.

Have your wedding party guests meet for brunch prior to your late afternoon wedding ceremony....The bridal party brunch reception will be the unexpected...opulent ....

It is common to hear hours of laughter and good conversation while guests share travel stories at the breakfast table. Guests who meet one another as strangers exchange addresses and emails with one another time and again in friendship and camaraderie.
Breakfast is served in our oceanfront dining room, or, weather permitting, on our waterfront deck. Swans, King Fishers, Great Blue Herons, Bufflehead ducks and many other birds regularly "join us" for brunch in full view just 50 feet from our breakfast table. The menu varies according to the season and the whim of the hosts. We always begin with fresh fruit, freshly brewed premium coffee, a wide range of teas, and orange juice. Yogurts and fresh baked goods often compliment the breakfast table.

You'll never have the same breakfast twice. So far our record is 15 different consecutively served breakfasts. Some of our favourite dishes include fresh strawberry crepes, and blueberry pancakes served with real Canadian Maple syrup, fresh fruit souffl├ęs, Belgian waffles with fresh berries and/or ice cream, smoked salmon quiche, baked apple French toast, eggs benedict, and much more.

Fields of blackberries are just up the street. Some of our guests come back year after year with empty pails to pick blackberries in August. Strawberries, blueberries, Saskatoon berries, raspberries and many other fresh fruit is also plentiful right here on Vancouver Island. We use them whenever they are available in our breakfasts.

The Vancouver Harbor in "The Gloaming" could not be more romantic and is the fairytale.....

I dreamed of a wedding of elaborate elegance,
A church filled with family and friends.
I asked him what kind of a wedding he wished for,
He said one that would make me his wife.
