The formal dining room is my favorite room in our home.
It has wonderful sunlight streaming through the plantation shutters
in the afternoon.
It has been some time since I have brought out
our fine china selected when we married in 1972.
The pattern is Snow Lily by Lenox.
I have already decided to use this next Christmas.
Most brides these days, do not select fine china,
or crystal and a silver pattern when they marry.
Many couples no longer want a formal dining room.
All of my married children do, however.
They all entertain their friends and family
and can throw a marvelous party!
The darling actually chose the pattern
for our formal settings.....
Snow Lily....fine china
Silver Mist..... crystal
Tara.....our sterling silver
It has proven to be a timeless pattern
and
we still love it!
What pattern did you choose when you married?
It is timeless! So beautiful!

Hi Deanna! Did you select fine china when you married? I would love for you to share what your wedding was like...I lvoe hearing others remember their special day! Enjoy your weekend!
DeleteYour china is beautiful, Betsy! We received many pieces of silver when we married and I always love using it. Chippendale by Towle is our pattern for our silver. One of the knives has an engraving silver mark that the others don't --I'm not sure why, but I know it came from my grandmother and every time I see it makes my heart happy! My daughter uses her wedding china and displays it on her hutch. Such a nice post today, Betsy! ♥
ReplyDeleteI know your pattern Martha Ellen! That was indeed very popular when we married also. I would love for you to share a few pictures of your silver. What was your daughter's pattern? This is so interesting to share! Hugs and enjoy your weekend!
DeleteOh I forgot that her pattern is Lennox Charleston. Unfortunately it's no longer made, but she does have service for 12. ♥
DeleteI will have to research that pattern Martha Ellen! How lovely that she has 12-place setting. This would make entertaining for the holidays so elegant! Have a great week and thank you for sharing today!
DeleteYour china is a beautiful pattern. I was a bit of a rebel when we got married and chose not to have fine china like everyone else did and instead listed for Denby stoneware. The pattern is Shamrock and I still like it today, although it's very heavy and sits in the cupboard rarely seeing the light of day. I don't have the full set of 12 that I wanted as it was very pricey in the 70's but I can feed 8, which is all our table will hold and that would be crowded! LOL My daughter likes the pattern so someday it will be hers. Interestingly, she and her husband chose stoneware for their dishes (they only have one set!) and it's pottery made by a friend of theirs. She also finds it heavy and not practical especially with 3 little boys! :) I've used Corelle Butterfly Gold pattern for every day since we got married almost 39 years ago! I guess it's now 'vintage' just like me. I must add that we didn't chose fine silver or crystal when we got married either. Stainless steel cutlery and every day glassware. I did inherit some Cornflower crystal glasses that I use for special occasions though. I wonder what today's bride is choosing. Have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you Pamela for sharing your story! Your pattern for everyday stoneware sounds lovely! There are so many patterns of beautiful china today, that it would be hard to select just one...my parents chose a pattern from Noritake which my daughter now has....would love for you to share some pictures of your stoneware! Hugs!
DeleteMoney was tight and I was (maybe too) frugal, so we only got a wee bit of china. Spode Bridal Rose... No crystal. Settings of "Prince Edward" silver. (Guess what my husband's name is?)
ReplyDeleteOur only entertaining was our family. Our 'forever' eating table was/is a round wooden one, with extensions for need, and with matching wooden chairs, it was quite pretty in our eating area.
So I never chose to have a formal dining room. (rebel, like Pamela above!!!)
The dining room was an everything room. Small children could play and close the doors on it. I used it as a sewing room too. Same, leave project and close doors. :-) Now it is library/den. And where my computer lives.
I never got the entertaining gene, so this has worked, for us, for all these years. :-)
Gentle hugs...
It's whatever makes your house a home and I know yours is a lovely place to hang your hat! I'll bet your family made wonderful memories around that wooden table! I am so with you...I love round tables! Have a lovely weekend!
DeleteIt must be a southern girl thing...but most of us have to have our china, crystal and silver. We have the same Lennox pattern, but my silver is Baroque Rose and my crystal is Waterford, Lismore. I just love to get my pieces out and sit a beautiful table, I always say, "I can set a table that would make my granny proud"! I made sure that both my girls had a start of China, crystal and their silver pattern...even before they married.
ReplyDeleteOh I know both of those patterns Jacquie! I love them both! Elegant!!!! You raised your daughters right.....the southern way! Love having you visit and hope to hear from you often! Enjoy your weekend!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful pattern! Your husband made a wonderful selection.
ReplyDeleteMy selection was Blue Willow. Somewhere along the way, I grew very tired of them. Sometimes I wish I had them back, though I have no idea where I'd put them since I have a set from each grandmother...Friendly Village and Derbytone.
I think your set is much more classic and stands the test of time very well indeed. Yes, wise choice!
Oh I remember Blue Willow Vee....lovely! How special to have a set from your grandmothers....wow! Yes, I have a few pieces of Friendly Village from my grandmother and mother....love them. I would love for you to share your pieces sometime....not familiar with Derbytone! Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteAfter nearly eight years plus of blogging, believe me, it's been done! Ha!
DeleteWhat a lovely dining room table you have made. You know, your wedding china looks very similar to mine, only with a blue tint to mine. The red berries look pretty against the white and grey pattern. The winter tags add a special touch. So pretty.
ReplyDeleteHave a splendid week.
~Sheri
Your table is lovely!!!
ReplyDeleteI chose "Romance" by Diamond China, "Angelique" silver and "Canterbury" by Duncan crystal. Daughter now has the china, the silver was sold many years ago and we use the crystal on a regular basis!!
Old patterns are the prettiest...I love using my antiques!!
Blessings to you,
J
